I think we have found our new go-to Sugarhouse eatery when we want food that’s fast but don’t want fast food. While we love to eat out, we also like to make it snappy before the inevitable tantrum or whatever other surprise our littlest one has up her toddler sized sleeves. We all know that fast doesn’t usually mean healthy, quality ingredients, but Cubby’s is a nice exception.
Cubby’s (no Ginger, not Chubby’s) opened up in Sugarhouse fairly recently and we ventured in the first time about a month ago. When I saw the words “Tomato Basil Coconut Soup” written on the chalkboard, I knew it was going to be good. There are plenty of manly options for the hubs (Tri Tip Steak Sandwich, Dragonslayer Burger) and ones that appeal to me (Citrus Kale Salad, and the above mentioned soup). And the sweet potato fries… I can’t believe it took me this long to mention them…
Do you see that sauce that those fries are basking in? It’s glorious and full of maple-y goodness.
I checked out the Three Cheese Grilled Cheese this time -complete with tomatoes, avocado, bacon, caramelized onions on cranberry white bread and drizzled with balsamic vinegar- and my husband tried the Houdini burger. The Houdini has smoked Gouda cheese on it and he says it is his favorite burger there so far.
It’s yummy and the absence of white colored iceberg lettuce on our sandwiches makes me feel like it is a healthier choice for the kids. Plus they give the little ones some adorable little paper hats to color on the keep them occupied and looking like they belong in a retro burger joint. The other good news? Everything on the menu is under $10.
I’m loving the new eateries popping up in Sugarhouse now that the infamous hole has been filled in. I also read that they have a food truck for all you food truck fans out there. If you are in the area and want to try something new, you should definitely order some of those fries…
